Pain killers, antibiotics, antidepressants, decongestants, antihistamines, corticosteroids and diuretics are clinically shown to have adverse oral side effects.
The most common oral side effects include oral thrush, dry mouth (Xerostomia), burning mouth, tooth decay, gum disease and various secondary infections. Patients dealing with serious medical conditions who are taking one or more prescriptive medications on a daily basis are considered to be at High Risk to develop progressive oral disease. It is essential that an effective oral relief protocol is made part of the overall wellness program.

Oral Thrush
Oral thrush is an overgrowth of yeast fungi which occurs naturally in the mouth. Regulation of the oral thrush fungus is impaired and/or diminished from the daily use of one or more prescription medications. Oral thrush lesions are white, lightly raised patched or sores on the tongue or mucosa which are often painful.
Dry Mouth (Xerostomia)
Hundreds of common medications can cause dry mouth. The condition can be uncomfortable and can lead to serious health problems. Without enough saliva, the body's natural immune system is compromised and its ability to fight off common infections is decreased.
Burning Mouth
Burning mouth is a chronic, painful condition characterized by burning sensations in the tongue, lips, gums, inside of the cheeks and the back of the mouth or throat. The discomfort can be easily attributable to a number of prescriptive medications or physical abnormalities in the mouth.
Burning Mouth Syndrome, on the other hand, is a rare, diagnosed condition that causes an intense scalding sensation in the mouth. The syndrome usually affects women, especially after menopause.
Caries (Tooth Decay)
Tooth decay can be attributable to the lack of saliva caused by many prescriptive medications. Saliva helps protect the teeth from decay with its antimicrobial components that help rebuild tooth enamel. Without enough of it, the teeth begin to deteriorate and break down.
Prescriptive medication users are at high risk to develop a compromised immune system. Use of MEDActive® products will aid in countering these side effects, increase overall health and augment long-term and total wellness.
